depression

Sun Feb 13, 2005, 7:30 AM
I have been and still am in a creative rut drawing- and painting-wise. I'm planning to go through Andrew Loomis' "Fun with a Pencil" to help find this fun of drawing again and to refresh my drawing skills/learn a better handling of proportions.
*sigh* it's not really motivating that I'm writing this to nobody at all again, though.

When did it loose its funness?

I'm so sorry you're feeling like you're in a rut. Good for you for going thru a book or tutorial; that's what i do to re-invigorate myself, I take on a tutorial. Doesn't even have to be pencil, sometimes I pick up an Illustrator tut or a Photoshop tut, anything to teach myself something fresh and new. I'll also go to a museum, or, best yet, I'll create a hand-drawn greeting card for a friend for absolutely no reason. Drawing a gift can really be fun and invigorating and remind you of the joy your art gives to others. Hang in there, this to shall pass. I will whisper in the ear of your muse, and tell her that you need a hug.

I can't even remember. looking at my latest artwork being created for the will of 'myself' the point of losing interest occured 4 - 8 months ago. I also found more joy in playing drums than drawing or painting. however, even (or in particular) those works for school didn't inspire or cheer me up to do sth more. I reckon my way of feeling may have influenced my inspiration. there hasn't been any soul torturing feeling for me since I drew "Trapdoor", which is like almost one year old. there wasn't even any room for anger as I drifted into an apathy, feeling indifferent for many things.

ooh, haha, that's the sweetest thing I've heard in a very long time. I actually have been into some musuems in the meantime. I was in three of London's museums (notwithstanding, I have to go back to the Modern Tate again!!!) and also one near my location but I guess I was rather intimidated than inspired :)
many, many kudos to you for taking care and giving advise

:cuddle: I'd like to encourage you to never be intimidated... it's a form of being discouraged, and that can make your hands drop down and your artistic urges dry up. Be DETERMINED, not discouraged. Look at something and say, "I'd like to try to do that!" Or, "I wonder how I could re-interpret that" or, "I'm going to practice and be that good... OR BETTER!" ^__^ Remember; be determined, not discouraged. Look at art and let it lift your heart and inspire you! That's what the artist intended. I have never known an artist who wanted their art to UNinspire. Go with the goal of all art... let it stir your soul, and inspire you my dear!! Wheeee
